The DFW International Airport recently announced the availablility of the Global Entry program at said airport.
Once you go through the authorization process which is available online, which includes a rigorous background check and be interviewed by a CBP officer as well as a $100 non-refundable fee, you get to bypass the passport control lines and scan your passport at an electronic kiosk, and then proceed to claim your bags and be on your way. You also get to skip the paper customs declaration form. However, you can still be selected for a random check by an immigration official.
The online enrollment for Global Entry is about 15 steps and they ask for all your personal data including employer info, etc. You then pay your fee and schedule your appointment with the CBP officer, all online. If you are approved you will have quick entrance into the US. Here is a list of airports where Global Entry is currently functioning.
On a recent return trip from Mexico I was able to see the kiosks at Miami Dade International airport and was intreagued since there were extra long lines at customs/immigration. I guess it would have been handy then, but I don’t travel internationally that often and not sure if the price and steps to enroll are worth the 45 minutes it took to get to my bags (I had a long 3+ hour layover), but if you have a connecting flight in less than an hour, I can see it coming in handy.
Have you enrolled in Global Entry? We would like to hear your experience with the enrollment process as well as your experience with using it at the airports. If I decide to enroll I will definitly follow up on this post.
